POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Assistant is responsible for assisting the Bishop of the Sierra Pacific Synod in all aspects of their ministry. The position provides administrative support to the Bishop, oversees daily office functions for the office of the Bishop and additional tasks as assigned by the Bishop. The Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (SPSELCA) is comprised of approximately 180 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) congregations and mission congregations located in northern California and northern Nevada. The Synod is supported by an elected Bishop and synod staff.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Meets regularly with the Bishop to discuss goals and priorities.
Oversees Synodical outreach and support of congregations and professional leaders in the event of an emergency or disaster.
Oversees the Bishop’s public and private calendars.
Gather information for preaching and speaking engagements and create an information packet.
Oversee daily office functions, including supervision of any volunteers at the office of the Bishop.
Provides logistical support for the Synod Council.
Provides support for in-person Synodical events, including but not limited to: Synod assembly, First Call Theological Education, Professional Leaders Conference and Chrism Mass.
Other responsibilities as directed by the Bishop.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Should possess a Bachelor’s degree.
Should possess knowledge of the mission and structure of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and its local, synodical, regional and churchwide expression.
Should have the ability to coordinate in-person and online events.
Should possess the ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and preserve confidentiality.
Should possess the ability to work and communicate with colleagues and partners in a collaborative style while able to take initiative and work independently.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Ability to triage tasks in a high paced work environment.
Skills in social media to support Synod communications.
Ability in oral and written communication.
An ability to interact sensitively and with care in interpersonal relationships.
Experience supporting and communicating with faith leaders and congregational representatives.
Emergency management skills and/or chaplaincy experience.
