School Supply Drive with LSS

It’s Back to School season, and the 150 children that Lutheran Social Services of Northern California serves are in desperate need of school supplies to start their next year of learning. Education is a primary way to guide individuals out of homelessness and poverty into stability, and LSS requests your assistance to give the children we serve opportunity to make powerful lives for themselves.

Sierra Pacific Synod Hunger Network Zoom Education Event

Thursday, September 1st at 7:00pm via Zoom

Join the Sierra Pacific Synod Hunger Network for an educational event featuring Ryan P. Cumming, Program Director for Hunger Education with ELCA World Hunger.

In a world faced with increasing hunger we are called to meet the challenge! Ending hunger isn’t just about food. It’s about access, it’s about justice, it’s about caring for creation and each other. It’s about hope for the world we want to live in. Ending hunger means recognizing the ways God is at work in farming communities and the ways God is calling all of us, together, to be part of the solution. Join us to learn how your congregation can be a part of this important ministry!

Email thelotts@gmail.com with your name, city and congregation to register and get the Zoom link.

Bishop's Book Club: After Trauma by Ali W. Rothrock

Bishop's Book Club: After Trauma by Ali W. Rothrock

Welcome to May's Bishop's Book Club livestream! Today, Bishop Megan Rohrer sits down with Author Ali W. Rothrock to discuss her new book, "After Trauma: Lessons on Overcoming from a First Responder Turned Crisis Counselor". "From a young age, Ali Rothrock fell head over heels in love with firefighting. But when she entered the fire service, she was ostracized by those who weren’t willing to accept a girl into their ranks. The trauma of her experiences eventually resulted in a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder, and that diagnosis was a first step towards healing. After Trauma: Lessons on Overcoming from a First Responder Turned Crisis Counselor is a story of adversity, grit, defiance, choice, and hope. Each chapter offers a lesson to help readers overcome their own trauma, including concrete and actionable advice on how to re-story a life after adversity. We all have the audacity to re-define ourselves, to feel hope about what lies ahead, and to choose our way forward. On her journey of recovery, Rothrock, has collected other people’s stories of resilience. After Trauma explores the fallout from trauma, the ripples those experiences have our own lives, and finally, a path toward healing."
