Keynote Speakers, Preachers & Spiritual Directors
Leonard McMahon is an Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care, Spirituality, and Political
Theology at the Pacific School of Religion. A doctoral candidate in political theology at
the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley, with work in spirituality, theology, and politics.
Leonard holds an MA in Religious Studies from UC Santa Barbara and an MDiv from Harvard Divinity School. His interest is in improving civic engagement, and through his consultancy, Common Ground Dialogue (cgdialogue.org), he works to bring divergent citizens into deeper conversation for the sake of our democracy.
Leonard's role during the Rostered Ministers Retreat will be to facilitate a design thinking workshop. Design Thinking is a rapidly evolving discipline, found across many industries. At the Pacific School of Religion, it is a requirement for all students as a significant step in the process of spiritual formation. A collaborative, iterative, problem-solving methodology, design thinking will offer attendees the chance to envision and craft a practical future where all in the Lutheran community can thrive. Leonard's hope is that this will be a productive way to begin the healing process.
