Recommendations from the Sierra Pacific Synod Investigation Team
Introduction from Interim Bishop Claire S. Burkat
On behalf of the Sierra Pacific Synod, I would like to extend my deep gratitude to Regina Banks, JD, the Rev. Maria Paiva, the Rev. Elizabeth Ekdale, and the Rev. Abel Arroyo Traverso for answering my call to deliberate, discern, and discuss the painful and unprecedented situation this synod has experienced over the past three years. I personally witnessed their courageous engagement, faithful listening, and hundreds of hours of exploration over six months to prepare the recommendations listed below. I recognize that some of the recommendations made by the Investigation Team will likely require changes to the constitutions and by-laws of both Churchwide and the Sierra Pacific Synod in order to implement the action steps recommended by the team.
I hope all who read their recommendations do so thoughtfully, prayerfully, and with love and respect for our Church. As all three expressions listed below are challenged to examine policies and procedures concerning our rostered leaders and our communities of faith, I trust this is the beginning of a graceful and hope-filled season in our synod.

Introduction from the Investigation Team
Dear Siblings in Christ,
Please find the recommendations of the Investigation Team appointed in September 2022 by Interim Bishop Claire Burkat.
Following our extensive presentation to the Sierra Pacific Synod Council on March 18, 2023, wherein we presented them with recommendations, the council responded with concerns regarding the specificity of some of the recommendations. After a period of prayerful dialog and discernment, the Investigation Team settled on the language below and agreed to provide a brief synopsis of our rationale.
We recognize that some of the recommendations made by the Team will likely require changes to the Churchwide and the Sierra Pacific Synod constitution/by-laws in order to implement fully. We invite that work to begin immediately.

Presentación de la Obispa Interina Claire S. Burkat
En representación del Sínodo de Sierra Pacific, me gustaría expresar mi profundo agradecimiento a la Doctora en Jurisprudencia Regina Banks, la Reverenda Maria Paiva, la Reverenda Elizabeth Ekdale, y el Reverendo Abel Arroyo Traverso por tomarse el tiempo de deliberar, discernir y debatir la situación dolorosa y sin precedentes que ha experimentado este sínodo durante los últimos tres años. Fui testigo de cómo se comprometieron con valentía, escucharon con fe y dedicaron cientos de horas de exploración durante más de seis meses para preparar las recomendaciones que se enumeran a continuación. Reconozco que es posible que algunas de las recomendaciones del equipo de investigación requieran que se hagan cambios en la Constitución y los estatutos de Churchwide y del Sínodo de Sierra Pacific para poder implementar el plan de acción recomendado por el equipo.
Espero que quienes lean estas recomendaciones lo hagan con consideración, devoción, y amor y respeto por nuestra Iglesia. Dado que las tres expresiones que se enumeran suponen un reto para revisar las políticas y los procedimientos relacionados con nuestros líderes ordenados y comunidades de fe, confío en que este es el comienzo de una temporada grata y llena de esperanza en nuestro sínodo.

Presentación del Equipo de Investigación
Queridos hermanos,
A continuación, encontrarán las recomendaciones del equipo de investigación que designó la Obispa Interina Claire Burkat en septiembre del 2022.
Luego de nuestra exhaustiva presentación al Consejo del Sínodo de Sierra Pacific el 18 de marzo del 2023, donde les presentamos nuestras recomendaciones, el Consejo ha expresado algunas inquietudes con respecto a la especificidad de algunas de ellas. Después de un período de ferviente diálogo y discernimiento, el equipo de investigación se decidió por el lenguaje a continuación y acordó entregar un breve resumen de nuestro principio fundamental.
Reconocemos que es posible que algunas de las recomendaciones que realizó el equipo requieran que se hagan cambios en la Constitución y los estatutos de Churchwide y el Sínodo de Sierra Pacific para poder implementarlas por completo.
Invitamos a que ese trabajo comience de inmediato.
